The facility is expected to boost education the Noun Division of the West Region.
The Minister of Secondary Education, Prof Nalova Lyonga has inaugurated 20 newly-constructed classrooms at Government Bilingual High School, GBHS Kouoptamo in the Noun Division of the West Region. The classrooms which were constructed with support from French philanthropist and businessman, Patrick Desplaces, were inaugurated last week. This was in the presence of the Sultan of the Bamouns, Sultan Nfonrifoum Mbombo Njoya and the Consul General at the French Embassy in Yaounde. The new infrastructure which is fully equipped with solar panels and water facilities, caters to both the English and French sections of the school, according to authorities. Minister Nalova Lyonga in a statement during the event, said the facility will boost education in the Noun Division and beyond. “This structure will significantly improve the learning conditions and the implementation of the distance education system in the area.
It’s a great legacy for the state of Cameroon.” the member of government said. The minister further added that the infrastructure will particularly fasten the school’s efforts in integrating distance education methods, further showcasing its commitment to modern learning. “A school which started classes only in January is already catching up with what we are doing in the Yaounde through the use of the distance education and distance learning centre,” Prof Nalova Lyonga added. The sponsor of the project, Patrick Desplaces, expressed his commitment to continue providing opportunities within Cameroon.
He articulated his desire to create attractive opportunities at home, saying that “the gesture is intended to provide the locals with modern infrastructure in the word of hospitality of the local authorities.” He said such facilities will help stop young Cameroonians from migrating to other parts of the world in search of good education. “We cannot accept that young people should keep traveling through deserts, through the ocean and eventually get to countries like Russia hoping for an infrastructure that no one can get in their own country,” the benefactor stated. Besides its contribution in boosting the educational system in Cameroon, the new facilities are equally considered as a symbol of the strong relationship that exists between Cameroon and France.
Authorities emphasized the importance of the project in reinforcing these ties and promoting shared development goals. The inauguration ceremony concluded with a group photograph, a moment immortalizing the day’s celebration of progress and a shared vision for the future of education in Cameroon.
