Welisane Mokwe Nkeng is an accomplished Cameroonian media professional, philanthropist, gender advocate and diplomat. She is the founder and head of the Welisane Foundation, the institution under which she has established herself in the last over six years as one of the most acclaimed Cameroonian women breaking grounds in the promotion of the wellbeing of underserved communities and persons. The multi-award-winning philanthropist and journalist has since creating the Welisane Foundation, assisted thousands of young girls and women and vulnerable persons, including internally displayed persons destabilized by the ongoing Anglophone crisis. Her foundation has over the years, held annual mentorship programs dubbed Lead Girls Lead Now and donated menstrual products to IDP girls leaving in Cameroon and Cameroonian girls living in refugee camps in Nigeria.
Through the “One Girl, One Dream”, scheme, the she and her foundation have donated fees and didactics to IDPs of the ongoing Anglophone crisis and girls living with disabilities. The foundation has equally been actively engaged in raising awareness on breast cancer and providing safety measures for victims and survivors of the disease. The Welisane Foundation has equally carried out sensitization campaigns on teenage pregnancy mainly through holiday camps nicknamed “Vacances Sans Grossesses” loosely translated into English language as “holidays without pregnancies”. Welisane Mokwe Nkeng’s activities have earned her dozens of national and international awards and other forms of recognition. Last year, she was honored as winner of the Philanthropy and Charity category at the Forty Under 40 Africa Award in Nairobi in Kenya, shining alongside some 100 outstanding Africans selected from across the continent.
She equally bagged the Honorary Award for her works in empowering young girls at the same event in the East African nation. Despite the multiple honors secured, the youthful media professional and philanthropist has repeatedly stated that she is committed to continue driving change. The show of humility and unflinching dedication has cemented her position as one of the biggest and most appealing personalities in Cameroon.
