Situated at five kilometers from the Bafoussam Airport, the Metche Waterfalls is found on the course of the Metche Choumi River, at border of the Penka- Michel Subdivision of the Menoua Department. The Metche Waterfalls falls are 50 meters high and seem to be the most impressive in the West Region. Aside from being a touristic site, the Metche Waterfalls are known as historical place.
Thus, it is said to be the place where the French Colonial Government used to take people to kill during the fight for the independence. Today it has become a venue for pilgrimage for great number of people, especially the Bamileke people. Many lost their sons, husbands, relatives, and this is the only place where they can come to pray their ancestors. People come and make their offerings in commemoration to their ancestors by putting palm oil and salt on the path.
The Mbouda Council, on which the Metche Waterfalls erea depend, has a total surface of 437 km2, with a population of about 60300 thousand in 2024. The Council is adjacent to the Mount Bamboutos and seven other councils;
The Baleng, and the Bamougoum Councils southward; the Santa Council at north, the Batcham, Babadjou Councils at west and the Galim council at east. The Mbouda Council is made up of eight traditional chiefdome; the Bamessingue, the Balatchi, the Bamenkombo, the Babeté, the Bamendjida, the Bamendjo the Bamendjo, the Bafunda and the Bamesso traditional chiefdomes. The annual rainfall is 1964 mm, with a tropical climate. the dry season is warm and mostly cloudy.
The warm season is from January to April and the hottest month of the year in Mbouda is March.The wet season is from June to September, and the coldest month of the year is August. For touristic purpose, the best time to visit Mbouda is from November to February. The soil is fertile and result from the mountains eruptions.
The economic activities rely on farming and trading, principally the production of peers and coffee. Mbouda is also the Capital of Bamboutos Division. The West Region has in total six divisions,including the Noun,with capital city Foumban,the Mifi (Bafoussam), the Koung-khi (Bandjoun), the Menoua (Dschang), the Ndé (Bangangté),the Haut-plateaux (Baham), the Haut -Nkam (Banana), and the Bamboutos (Mbouda).
