The new national identity card management system which facilitates the production of identification document in 48 hours has gone operational. With the launch of the platform, Cameroonians can now pre-register for online for the obtention of the national identity card online. The introduction of the system simplifies the process for the acquisition of the national identification documents as it ensures a faster delivery of the document.
The online pre-registration process can be completed on the designated website, where citizens are required to fill out their information. To obtain document, citizens will now need to follow a two-step process. The first step involves online pre-registration, which begins on February 17, 2025. The second step requires citizens to visit identification centers in regional capitals from February 24, 2025, to finalize the process and submit their documents. The General Delegation for National Security, Martin Mbarga Nguélé, has assured that pending the national identity cards for citizens with old receipts are being processed. Additionally, applications for double identity cases have been received and processed since January 10, 2025. Those concerned must pre-register in the new system via the designated website.
The online pre-registration process is not only convenient but also efficient. Once users complete the online pre-registration exercise and pay the required 10,000 FCFA fee via mobile money services, they will receive a payment receipt. The users can then visit an identification post to finalize their application, and their identity card will be issued within 48 hours. The Delegate General for National Security, has in a move aimed at reducing long queues and alleviate the logistical challenges citizens often face when applying for national identity cards to follow established procedures. The launch of the system has been hailed by the population. Persons interviewed by The National Post say it reflects the commitment of the National security service to leverage technology in the public service.
