The Cameroonian external relations boss led the works during an extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia recently.
Cameroon’s External Relations Minister, Mbella Mbella has called for joint actions in resolving in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine. The Cameroonian member of government made the calls in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia while recently chairing the extraordinary of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the OIC aimed at discussing recent developments in Palestine. As chair of the 50th Session of the OIC’s Council of Foreign Ministers, Minister Mbella Mbella participated in talks in the bloc’s 20th extraordinary session of the Council of Foreign Ministers. The meeting was held recently to address the escalating crisis between the Israel and the Palestinian people which is mainly linked to what has been described as annexation issues.
The meeting was presided over by Cameroon’s Minister of External Relations, Mbella Mbella who emphasized the need for a unified stance among member states in response to recent developments in the conflict. Mbella highlighted the significance of the ceasefire agreement established between Israel and Hamas in January, which he noted has improved humanitarian conditions in Gaza and eased regional tensions. He called for a comprehensive approach to resolving the conflict through a two-state solution, advocating for Israel and Palestine to coexist within internationally recognized borders. The Gambia’s Foreign Minister, Dr Mamadou Tangara reiterated his country’s commitment to advocating for the Palestinian cause and condemned the proposed plans for the forced displacement of Palestinians.
He demonstrates the urgency for the international community to act decisively against these aggressions and to work towards a permanent ceasefire that ensures Israel’s withdrawal from occupied territories. The Secretary General of the OIC, Hussein Ibrahim Taha, supported the reconstruction plan for Gaza endorsed by the Arab Summit and reaffirmed the Palestinian people’s right to remain on their land. He stressed that achieving a viable two-state solution requires collective financial and political support from member states. The meeting concluded with a call for solidarity with the Palestinian people, emphasizing the need for humanitarian assistance and on-going efforts towards a peaceful resolution in line with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.
