The closing ceremony of the first-ever Cameroonian Youth Month in the diaspora was launched by Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, Mounouna Foutsou, on February 25 in Brussels. The event, held at the Cameroonian Embassy in Belgium, focused on strengthening economic ties between young Cameroonians abroad and the national economy, with discussions on investment opportunities, entrepreneurship, and partnerships for diaspora-led contributions to Cameroon’s development. Minister Mounouna Foutsou, Ambassador Daniel Evina, and other officials participated in a high-level working session, aiming to identify financial mechanisms to support youth-led businesses, enhance investment channels, and reinforce government-diaspora partnerships.
Participants explored methods to facilitate business creation, improve access to funding, and bridge the gap between Cameroonian entrepreneurs at home and abroad. The delegation also visited enterprises founded by Cameroonian youth in Belgium, gaining insights into their business models, challenges, and potential collaboration opportunities with local businesses in Cameroon. The engagements In Brussels will culminate in the International Forum on Diaspora Youth Investments, scheduled for February 28, 2025. The forum, themed “High-Impact Investments: Overcoming Challenges and Unlocking Financing for the Diaspora,” will gather policymakers, financial experts, and entrepreneurs to discuss overcoming financial barriers, accessing funding opportunities, and developing strategies to maximize diaspora investments in Cameroon.
Later, Minister Mounouna Foutsou hosted a virtual Hangout session that connected Cameroonian youth from Belgium and other countries. The session, themed “Diaspora Synergies: Creating Joint Ventures and Strengthening Entrepreneurial Networks,” addressed topics such as financing strategies, business formalization, and international market expansion, aiming to promote collaboration between young entrepreneurs abroad and those in Cameroon. These initiatives in Brussels are part of Cameroon’s ongoing efforts to foster structured engagement with its youth diaspora, with a focus on investment, innovation, and entrepreneurship to support the country’s economic development.
