At just 26 years old, Boris Njock from Nyong and Kellé Division of the Center Region, has emerged as an inspiring entrepreneur, overcoming the challenges of unemployment through determination and innovation.
With a degree in biosciences from the University of Yaoundé II and two years of experience in physiotherapy, Boris found himself facing the harsh reality of job scarcity and unemployment. Rather than succumbing to despair, he and his girlfriend decided to forge their own path. In 2021, with a modest budget of 150,000FCFA sourced from contributions, Boris began selling natural and semi-natural Brazilian products online. Initially, he stored inventory at home and managed deliveries, which posed its own challenges.
Many potential customers preferred shopping in physical stores, creating a gap that Boris worked hard to bridge. His persistence paid off when he opened his first store in November 11, 2023. Njock credits his entrepreneurial journey to a combination of personal initiative and extensive research conducted with his girlfriend. They sought ways to invest in a society where traditional employment opportunities are often elusive without connections or unethical means. His experience highlights the importance of adaptability and resilience in the face of adversity.
For young people grappling with unemployment, Njock offers invaluable advice: “Not everyone is meant to work for others or the government. It’s essential to avoid wallowing in despair. With the rapid advancement of technology, there are countless ways to earn a living.” He emphasizes that true wealth comes from having money work for you rather than waiting for a monthly paycheck. Njock’s story is a powerful reminder that with creativity and determination, financial independence is within reach. By shifting mindsets and embracing opportunities, young people can have their own paths to success.
