On February 26, 2025, the Ambassador of Chad to Cameroon, Djidda Moussa Outman, met with officials at the Ministry of Higher Education to discuss strengthening academic collaboration between the two neighboring countries.
The Ambassador was received by the Secretary General, Prof Wilfried Nyongbet Gabsa, on behalf of the Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education, Prof Jacques Fame Ndongo. The meeting took place in Room 904 of the ministry and included key stakeholders from the Cameroonian higher education sector. The visit was part of ongoing efforts to reinforce the long-standing academic cooperation between Cameroon and Chad, which dates back to the Agreement of Cultural, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation signed on December 21, 1985.
This collaboration is further enhanced by the Cameroon-Chad Joint Cooperation Commission, established through a protocol signed on August 20, 1970, in Moundou. During the meeting, Prof Gabsa provided an overview of Cameroon’s higher education system, highlighting its 11 state universities located across 10 administrative regions, as well as four internationally recognized institutions. He emphasized the country’s commitment to Quality Assurance, Professionalization and Digitalization of Education, and Graduate Employability, as outlined in Law No. 2023/007 of July 25, 2023.
This law promotes a University-Enterprise model aimed at improving links between academia and industry. A key agenda item was the upcoming 24th session of the Great Joint Cooperation Commission Cameroon-Chad, which is set to be hosted in Chad in the coming months. The Chadian ambassador also conveyed concerns from Chadian students in Cameroon regarding the timely issuance of academic certificates, which are crucial for their professional reintegration upon returning home. Prof Gabsa assured Ambassador Outman that the issue would be communicated to the Cameroonian Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education, Chancellor of Academic Orders, Prof Fame Ndongo to ensure a swift resolution.
