A partnership agreement has been signed between the Ministry of Tourism and Leisure, and the Ministry of Higher Education aimed at supporting the opening of the Reference Vocational Training Center for Hotel, Tourism and Leisure in Bertoua in the East Region.
The Ministry of Tourism and Leisure and the Ministry of Higher Education have penned down a partnership aimed at supporting the opening of the Reference Vocational Training Center for Hotel, Tourism and Leisure in Bertoua in the East Region. The signing ceremony was presided over by the Minister of State, Minister of Tourism and Leisure, Bello Bouba Maïgari and the Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education, Professor Jacques Fame Ndongo, yesterday. The event was also attended by six other members of the government, the Rector of the University of Bertoua and representatives from both ministries.
The Reference Vocational Training Center in Hotel, Tourism, and Leisure was created on August 25, 2021, by presidential decree. The center is designed to enhance professional training in tourism and hospitality services, with the aim of improving service quality and fostering entrepreneurship in Cameroon’s tourism sector. During the event, the Director of Training at the Ministry of Tourism, Nji Joseph, outlined the key objectives of the training institution. The center aims to train students in culinary arts, improve international tourism services, and provide certifications in hotel and catering management. Successful candidates will receive professional certificates in tourism and hotel management, with the possibility of obtaining national certificates.
The training center is equipped with educational and administrative buildings, student dormitories, a three-star hotel, a leisure area, travel facilities, a modern kitchen, and playgrounds. These facilities are intended to provide practical training to students and enhance their readiness for the job market. Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Higher Education Professor Jacques Fame Ndongo emphasized the importance of collaboration between the two ministries. He highlighted the initiative as a means to strengthen professional training in tourism and leisure, not only to grant certificates but also to promote entrepreneurship, job creation, and economic growth in Cameroon.
The Minister of Tourism and Leisure Bello Bouba Maïgari underscored the significance of this partnership in promoting Cameroonian gastronomy and cultural heritage. He stated that the Bertoua-based institution would help uncover and showcase the country’s diverse cultural and tourism resources, enhancing the sector’s development.
