Cameroonian youth from diverse backgrounds gathered at the Yaoundé Multipurpose Sports Complex yesterday Thursday February 13 and pledged their motion of support as they commemorated President Paul Biya’s 92nd birthday.
The ceremony brought together students, traders, commercial motorbike riders, and members of various youth organizations, including the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) youth wing. They expressed their commitment to peace, security, and socio-economic progress, echoing recent calls for youth involvement in governance. Fadimatou Iyawa Ousmanou, President of the National Youth Council of Cameroon, delivered a speech reaffirming the youth’s dedication to support president Paul Biya and urge him to seek re-election. “We are determined to support you.
We understand our responsibilities—ensuring peace, security, and contributing to socio-economic progress, especially in this electoral year,” she stated. She referenced President Biya’s recent message to the youth, acknowledging the trust placed in them to shape the country’s future. The event also featured a message from Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh, Minister of State and Secretary-General at the Presidency, personal representative of the Head of State, who conveyed President Biya’s appreciation for the support. He acknowledged the enthusiasm of the young people and their role in national stability. “I will strive to find the right words to describe to him the fervor I felt in this hall, the intensity of what I have seen, heard, and experienced throughout this ceremony,” he stated.
A symbolic gift was presented to the President as a token of gratitude, emphasizing the connection between young Cameroonians and the Head of State. The 2025 presidential election has been scheduled to take place as from October 2025.
