The call was made yesterday during a New Year wishes ceremony organized for the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Prof Narcisse Mouelle Kombi.
The Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Prof Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, has urged national sports federations and all stakeholders in the sports fraternity to embrace accountability and foster harmonious collaboration in their activities. The call was made yesterday January 28, during a New Year wishes ceremony held at the Yaoundé Multipurpose Sports Complex, where federation presidents and key sports administrators gathered to reflect on the past year and set the stage for 2025. Addressing the 54 federation presidents in attendance, Minister Mouelle Kombi highlighted Cameroon’s impressive achievements in international competitions, revealing that the country secured a total of 471 medals in 2024 across various disciplines.
The event brought together notable figures such as Achille Balemagna, President of the Cameroon Bodybuilding Federation, and Alain Christian Kingue, President of the Cameroon Judo Federation, among others. A key highlight of the minister’s speech was the announcement of an ambitious infrastructure development plan. In 2025, at least 30 municipalities across Cameroon will benefit from 100 sports infrastructure projects, including new constructions and rehabilitations.
This investment aims to improve sports facilities nationwide, providing better training grounds for athletes and enhancing the accessibility of sports at the grassroots level. Beyond infrastructure, the Minister also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening central and decentralized services within the ministry, ensuring that regional delegations are fully equipped to support sports development. He further pledged financial support to sports movements, academies, and federations through subventions, a move expected to boost the promotion of various sports disciplines across the country.
While many welcomed these announcements with enthusiasm, others remained cautious, expressing a mix of optimism and skepticism. Some stakeholders believe that the true impact of these promises will only be measured when they are fully implemented. As Cameroon looks ahead to another sporting year, the message from the Ministry is clear: accountability, collaboration, and development will be the pillars guiding sports administration in 2025.
