The University of Dschang took an active role during the 59th National Youth Day celebrations on February 11, as they chant for peace and growth at the Dschang Ceremonial Ground.
Joining their peers across the nation to commemorate the day under the theme “Youth, Maturity, and Responsibility for the Consolidation of Peace, Security, Economic Growth, and the Democratic Process.” A total of 585 students from the university participated in the march pass, accompanied by 18 supervisors. Each faculty was represented by 50 students, while external campuses contributed 80 participants. The parade also included 40 flag bearers, 40 members from sports and cultural clubs, 40 representatives from the CEMAC zone, 30 majorettes, and 15 students in the fanfare group.
The students marched in an orderly and disciplined manner, embodying the values of responsibility and national unity that the event sought to promote. The University of Dschang emphasized this year’s theme through various banners and messages carried by its different faculties and schools. The principal banner underscored the institution’s vision with the inscription: “A conscious and dynamic university youth is an asset for the economic growth, peace, and emergence of our country.”Other faculties conveyed messages highlighting their contributions to national development.
The Faculty of Letters and Social Sciences presented itself as “a crucible for the training of mature youth ready to meet the challenges of the process.”Another message reinforced the role of technological advancements in empowering ambitious and committed students. The university also positioned itself as “the temple of excellence and quality,” calling for the consolidation of democracy and economic growth. The emphasis on peace and progress was further reflected in messages advocating for the training of mature university youth as a key factor in stabilizing the democratic process.
Health professionals in training were reminded that rigor, integrity, and excellence are vital to ensuring peace and economic growth. The importance of agronomy in securing youth employability and food security was also highlighted, while another banner described the university as “a laboratory for the consolidation of the rule of law, democracy, and social peace in Cameroon.” Through its enthusiastic participation, the University of Dschang reaffirmed its commitment to shaping responsible and development-driven young citizens. At the end of the ceremony, students expressed their readiness to embrace the Head of State’s address, reinforcing their dedication to unity, peace, and national progress.
