The move is aimed at helping the Social Democratic Front, the SDF party to level the grounds as it prepares to take on the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, the CPDM during the October presidentials. The Chairman of the SDF, Hon. Joshua Osih, made the announcement in Yaounde over the weekend at end of the National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting of the fearsome opposition party.
.The Social Democratic Front, SDF by voice of its party chairman Hon. Joshua Oshi, has initiated a nationwide recruitment drive to enlist 75,000 polling agents in preparation for the 2025 presidential election. He made the announcement during the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on February 1 at the headquarters of the renowned opposition party in Yaoundé. Hon Osih stated that the recruitment process is already 60% completed, with the objective of having at least three polling agents in every voting station.
He emphasized the importance of securing votes through trained representatives who can read, write, and defend the party’s interests at the polls. The SDF’s Secretary General, Njong Fonyuy Donatus, noted that for the first time, the party will have representation in all joint electoral commissions across the country. He highlighted that, alongside the ruling CPDM, the SDF is the only party with members in these commissions nationwide.
During the meeting, Hon Osih also announced his candidacy for the upcoming presidential election. The SDF has scheduled an extraordinary convention on February 22 in Yaoundé, where the party will select its official candidate. Regional chairpersons have been tasked with finalizing the selection of delegates for the convention. The party leadership urged members to remain engaged in the electoral process and committed to their responsibilities.
Hon Osih stressed that only those actively contributing to the party’s objectives will be prioritized, stating that there will be no room for inactive members. With an electoral cycle of four successive elections in view, the SDF wants to maximize all chances. While the presidential and regional elections are billed for this year, the parliamentary and municipal elections are slated for 2026. “If the presidential election is convened between June 5 and July 15, 2025, the electoral registers will be closed and only reopened after the declaration of municipal election results in 2026,” Hon. Osih stated.
Urging Cameroonians to take advantage of the period before June 5 and massively register for the elections, he told the leaders of the SDF party that holiday is over and no absences at meetings will be welcomed.
