On January 13 this year, Dr Marie Solange Ndom Ebongue was installed as Director General of the historic Laquintinie Hospital in Douala in the Littoral Region. Dr Ndom Ebongue is the first ever woman to head the over 80-year-old medical institution which boost of having a capacity of some 800 beds and a staff of about 1500 health officials and a capacity to receive some 500 patients on a daily basis. She has received plaudits over the years as one of the most hardworking Cameroonian women who young girls and women are looking up to. Â Even before her appointment late last year, the 44-year-old cardiologist had been a well-known face to Cameroonians as a result of her endless works in the media and on the ground, sensitizing Cameroonians on different diseases and how they can be prevented by the population.
Through the projects, she worked actively and relentlessly with government and private institutions, providing cutting-edge knowledge on the need to and how Cameroonians can live a healthy life. At the professional level, she rose to the position of president of Cameroonian doctors’ association. As head of the association from 2020 to 2022, she strived in bringing Cameroonian medical experts under one umbrella to design in a bid to provide quality healthcare services to the people of Cameroon and beyond. At just 44, Dr Ndom Ebongue has an overall total of over 18 years in the medical field, a time during which she has practiced in top health institutions in Yaounde and Douala in Cameroon, in Morocco, among others.  At the Laquintinie Hospital, she held several posts of responsibility. Among them, the head of cardiology department and that of a medical advisor, both positions she held from 2021 until her appointment on December 24 last year, to head the institution. She was also one of Cameroon’s top health specialists during the fight against the Coronavirus.
