The special recruitment initiative for 150 university lecturers for the 2024-2025 academic year aimed at addressing the staffing needs of newly established state universities of Ebolowa, Garoua and Bertoua.
This recruitment follows high-level directives from the President of the Republic and was authorized by the Prime Minister to enhance the quality of higher education in Cameroon. According to a communiqué released on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, by the Secretary-General of the Prime Minister’s Office, Séraphin Magloire Fouda, the recruitment is open to Cameroonian citizens who are under 45 years old as of October 1, 2024, and hold a Doctorate or PhD.
The recruitment will offer some 45 teaching positions at each of the three universities, distributed across various faculties and schools. The operation is being managed by the Minister of Higher Education, adhering to established regulations to ensure a fair and transparent selection process. After the rigorous selection procedure, successful candidates were chosen to fill positions at the three universities. The Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education, and the heads of the respective universities will now work to formalize employment contracts and verify the candidates’ public agent status before they begin their duties.
Once the selection process is complete, the Minister of Higher Education and the heads of the selected candidates’ institutions will formalize employment contracts and ensure that successful candidates begin their duties. They will also verify the information provided by applicants regarding their public service status. This new recruitment initiative follows the 2018 presidential decree, which authorized the hiring of 2,000 PhD holders for state universities, with phases of recruitment set for 2019, 2020, and 2021. The recruitment operation, which began in 2023, is expected to conclude in 2025 with the hiring of 150 teachers, aimed at addressing the staffing needs of these newly established public universities.
